Section B : Continuous Writing
(Narrative Essay - Write a story beginning with "It had been raining all day...")
It had
been raining all
day, the restaurant
was so dull
and joyless. The
jukebox was playing
a sad song. Then, a
lady walked into the small
restaurant and took
her place beside
a window. She
stared at the
drops of rain
meaningfully. Out of the blue,
a waitress came
and asked gracefully,
“Excuse me miss, what would
you like to
have this evening?”.
She was as
graceful as a
swan and she
had an eye
catching smile. The
lady noticed that
the waitress was
going to have a baby.
Her tummy looked
like she had
the baby almost
for seven months.
The lady smiled
and asked for
a special meal.
She was starving
to death after
the incident. The
waitress nodded and
left the lady
alone. After that,
the lady glanced at
the drops of
rain and remembered
‘it’.
She was
alone in a car and it was
raining cats and
dogs. There was
nobody passing by
the road as the night
was as dark
as ebony. There
was just a
vivid and a
very magnificent full
moon that could
accompany her. She
could not do
anything. She was
deadlocked. She continued
to listen to the radio
though it was
very blurry. She
tried to call
someone but there
was no reception.
What could she
do at a
time like this? It was
so cold that
she turned off
the air conditioner.
She waited and
waited patiently for
someone to come.
It had been
two hours, alone
and helpless on
that road. She
took a look
outside her car,
her BMW 3
Series. She stared
at the front
tire. “Why? Why
did you deflated
at this time
of day? I
have a lot
of work to
do, I am
tired! Starving! And
alone in this
pile of junk.
Argghhh!”. She got
frustrated and she held her
tummy tight as
she tried to
withstand her hunger.
Suddenly, there
was a knock
at the window.
She turned her
head towards it.
It was a
very young looking
guy. He was
holding an umbrella.
He gave a
sign that it
was okay and
he wanted to
help. The lady
hesitated. She was
afraid that the
guy would do
‘something’ to her.
She looked at
him and searched
for anything suspicious.
His apparel was
not very convincing
and his car?
It was just
a small beaten
up car. Could
she trust him?
With hesitation, she
opened her car
window slowly. “Hey! I’m
Lee Harris. You
need help? I
can give you
a hand. What’s
wrong?”, the guy
asked her with
concerned. The lady explained
her situation from
A till Z . Lee Harris
asked her to
wait in his
car while he
changed the deflated
tire. After half
an hour, he finished exchanging
the tires and he was very drenched.
The lady entered
her car and
thanked him for
his help. She
offered him a
reward but he
refused to take
it. “Then, what
do you want?
I can give
you anything? Just
say it”, the
lady told the
guy with confidence.
“Nothing, it just…em…I
want you to
help anyone that is in
trouble like I
did for you.
Just remember me”, he smiled
and stepped in
his small car.
The
lady’s meal came
in time as
her flashbacks ended.
She thanked the
pregnant waitress. She enjoyed the
meal as she
was so hungry.
After she finished
the meal, she
looked around. The
restaurant was so
old and she
looked at the
waitress. She was
alone at the
cash register. There
was no other
staffs. The lady got up and
went to the
counter. She paid
her meal with
a RM50 note. The pregnant
lady took the
note and asked
the lady to
wait for her
change. Then, she hurriedly went
to a room.
After a moment,
the pregnant lady came
back and the
lady was gone.
On top of the
counter, there was
a napkin written
‘Thank you for a great
meal’ and under it, there
was five more
of the same
note. The pregnant
lady was shocked
beyond believe. She cried
with gratefulness. “How
did she know that we needed this
amount of money?”.
That night, the
pregnant lady was
going to sleep.
She laid down
beside her husband
and she whispered
into his ear, “Honey,
it’s okay. We’re going
to be alright”.
She kissed his
cheek and said,
“Thank you and
I love you
so much,… Lee Harris”.
