Clean State Healthy Citizens Essay Part 2

Title                 -           Clean  State  Healthy  Citizens

Written  by       -           Nur  Edzafirah  Binti  Eddie

Once  the  birds  were  singing  delightfully  and  the  fresh  breeze  blew  against  the  grasses.  Nature  is  wonderful,  we  want  it  to  last  forever  for  the  next  generation.  Thus,  our  children  and  grandchildren  could  enjoy  the  nature  happily.  But  now,  have  we  looked  around  us?  What  do  we  see?  Yes,  the  birds  now  could  not  sing  as  beautifully  as  in  the  past.  The  grasses  could  not  wave  to  us  in  this  polluted  air.  In  addition,  the  citizens  suffer  due  to  diseases  which  are  spreading  all  around  us.  How  can  we  avoid  all  of  this?  Yes,  we  need  to  protect  our  environment  from  pollution.  Certainly,  there  are  ways  to  save  the  environment.

To  save  our  state  from  being  polluted,  we  need  to  use  the  3Rs  concept  which  are  reduce,  reuse  and  recycle.  First  of  all,  we  should  start  from  our  home  sweet  home  as  the  saying  goes,  “charity  begins  at  home”.  The  whole  family  members  should  take  part  together  to  conserve  nature.  The  bulbs  in  every  corner  of  the  house  need  to  be  change.  It  is  better  that  we  use  compact  fluorescent  bulbs.  This  is  because  they  are  brighter,  last  longer  and  use  less  energy  than  incandescent  bulbs.  They  also  do  not  produce  nearly  as  much  wasted  heat.  A  fluorescent  bulb  would  stop  a  thousand  pounds  of  carbon  dioxide  from  going  into  the  atmosphere.  So,  we  could  save  our  money  while  saving  our  environment  by  reducing  the  statistics  of  the  bulbs  we  use.

To  conserve  energy,  we  need  to  switch  off  the  lights  after  we  are  done  using  them  or  even  when  we  leave  a  room  for  a  short  time  so,  less  energy  would  be  used.  Then,  we  need  to  use  less  electronic  items  in  our  houses  and  offices,  such  as  computers,  laptops,  televisions  and  so  on  and  so  forth.  Consumer  electronics  create  immense  amount  of  waste.  Definitely  when  it  comes  to  the  components  in  the  piles  of  trash  at  the  landfills.  These  things  use  a  number  of  minerals  that  are  often  mined  without  proper  environmental  protection  protocols.  Other  than  using  less  of  them,  try  buying  fewer  electronic  items.  This  could  help  us  to  drastically  reduce  our  imprint  on  the  environment.

Moreover,  we  need  to  reduce  the  large  amounts  of  paper  usage.  We  could  save  it  by  using  the  spell  checker.  Surely  everybody  uses  the  latest  technologies  to  make  everyday  work  become  easier.  Many  of  us  do  our  work  by  using  the  computers  and  laptops.  After  we  are  done  doing  them,  we  will  print  and  give  them  to  our  managers  to  be  checked.  Is  it  true?  Thus,  before  we  print  the  documents,  be  sure  to  run  grammar  and  spell  check.  After  we  get  a  document  error-free,  preview  it  to  ensure  if  it  fits  the  page  and  is  perfect  according  to  our  needs  because  beauty  is  in  the  eye  of  the  beholder.  Our  work  would  be  much  easier  if  we  do  it  once.  If  we  just  do  it  carefully,  we  can  reduce  the  amount  of  papers  used  and  save  some  time,  everybody  knows  that  time  is  gold.  We  also  could  save  our  money  and  the  environment.

Furthermore,  we  could  reuse  the  old  papers.  For  an  example,  the  junk  mails.  Have  we  considered  how  much  energy  is  used  in  creating  all  that  unsolicited  junk  we  get  in  the  mailbox?  The  junk  mail  delivered  to  our  homes  alone  is  equivalent  to  one  and  a  half  of  a  tree  which  add  ups  to  one  hundred  million  of  trees  every  year.  We  could  use  that  so  called  junk  mails  for  quick  notes.  Just  stack  them  beside  the  computers  and  telephones  either  in  our  houses  or  our  offices.  Other  than  the  junk  mails,  we  can  put  the  unused  printed  documents  too.  We  can  cut  each  of  them  into  quarters.  Try  using  the  other  side  of  the  papers  if  we  want  to  write  something.  Next,  we  do  not  have  to  give  clean  papers  for  the  children  to  color  on.  We  can  give  them  the  unused  papers  or  the  junk  mails  mentioned  above.

Papers  can  be  recycled  too.  The  papers  that  are  unused  like  the  junk  mails  can  be  recycled.  After  we  have  read  the  mails,  we  could  just  dump  them  into  the  recycle  bin.  How  about  aluminum  cans?  Does  recycling  them  really  make  a  difference?  Let  see,  the  electric  and  thermal  energy  required  to  replace  the  cans  are  wasted.  We  should  know  that  one  million  tons  of  metal  is  equivalent  to  about  twenty-one  million  barrels  of  crude  oil  or  one  billion  gallons  of  gasoline.  All  of  them  are  enough  to  supply  the  total  energy  needs  of  one  million  homes  or  two  million  cars  with  gasoline  for  a  full  year.  Therefore,  we  should  recycle  those  aluminum  cans  for  a  better  life.  We  can  recycle  other  things  such  as  plastic  bottles  and  many  more  to  avoid  from  open  burning.

Open  burning  activity  can  pollute  the  air  by  increasing  the  level   of  carbon  dioxide  and  decreasing  the  level  of  oxygen.  Some  people  are  irresponsible  and  do  not  care  about  the  earth.  They  burn  things  without  limit.  This  is  why  we  need  to  recycle  our  things  to  lessen  the  open  burning  habits.  After  all,  we  could  reduce  the  logging  and  illegal  logging  activity.  Most  of  all  the  illegal logging  activity.  It  is  the  harvest,  transportation,  purchase  or  sale  of  timber  which  is  in  violation  of  laws.  The  harvesting  procedure  itself  may  be  illegal,  including  using  corrupt  means  to  gain  access  to  forests,  extraction  without  permission  or  from  a  protected  area.  These  activities  affect  the  earth’s  climate.  Especially  in  Malaysia,  sometimes  it  will  rain  cats  and  dogs  but  after  that  the  weather  turns  very  hot.  During  the  raining  seasons,  the  sea  level  will  increase.  As  a  results,  the  low  land  areas  will  be  flooded.  The  citizens  will  face  a  lot  of  trouble  due  to  the  floods.

Their  houses  will  be  destroyed,  they  will  lack  food  and  drinks.  Not  to  mention  some  of  them  will  drink  the  water  from  the  flood  which  is  not  a  good  source.  They  will  have  to  face  a  lot  of  diseases  such  as  scabies,  stomach  ache  and  many  more.  They  also  will  lack  facilities.  Thus,  we  need  to  protect  our  environment  to  protect  ourselves.  Henceforth,  we  know  that  our  nation  have  given  the  commitments  by  making  the  Earth  Hour.  What  is  Earth  Hour?  Earth  Hour  is  a  worldwide  event  organized  by  the  World  Wide  Fund  for  Nature  (WWF)  and  held  towards  the  end  of  March  annually.  This  activity  is  to  encourage  us  to  turn  off  our  non-essential  lights  for  one  hour  to  raise  awareness  about  the  need  to  take  action  on  climate  change.  We  should  often  take  part  in  an  event  such  as  this  to  show  our  concern  for  our  earth.  The  event  like  this  should  be  implemented  more  often.

Have  we  considered  purchasing  chlorofluorocarbon  (CFC)  free  products?  As  we  all  know  that  chlorofluorocarbon  destroys  the  ozone  layer  which  protects  us  from  the  harmful  ultraviolet  rays.  This  substance  is  often  used  in  air  conditioners,  some  scented  candles  and  even  in  some  cooking  products.  Mostly  they  are  in  aerosol  spray  products.  About  the  spray  products,  if  we  want  to  kill  the  cockroaches,  we  could  do  it  naturally.  Try  keeping  a  soapy  water  in  hand.  The  soapy  water  could  kill  the  cockroaches  if  we  just  spray  it  directly  to  them.  As  the  things  that  we  used  cause  the  ozone  depletion,  more  ultraviolet  rays  from  the  sun  could  pass  through  the  ozone  layer.  So,  the  harmful  ultraviolet  radiation  rays  increase  the  risk  of  skin  cancer,  cataract  cases,  suppresses  the  human  immune  system  and  environmental  damage.  For  instant,  the  temperature  of  the  earth  would  increase  or  it  is  also  called  global  warming.  Global  warming  causes  the  icebergs  to  melt  and  make  the  sea  level  increases.  This  situation  also  could  cause  floods  at  the  low  land  areas.  All  of  the  simple  things  could  harm  the  citizens’  life.  Let  us  change  it  by  using  chlorofluorocarbon  free  products.  We  could  live  a  better  life.

Now,  everybody  needs  a  car.  Cars  are  important  for  us  to  go  do  our  errands.  Thus,  if  we  have  a  diesel  car,  consider  using  biodiesel.  Biodiesel?  What  is  that?  Alright,  biodiesel  is  a  name  of  a  clean  burning  alternative  fuel  produce  from  domestic  or  renewable  resources.  It  contains  no  petroleum  but  could  be  blended  at  any  level  with  petroleum  diesel  to  create  a  biodiesel  blend.  It  could  be  used  in  compression  ignition  engines  with  no  major  modifications.  It  is  simple  to  use,  biodegradable,  nontoxic  and  essentially  free  of  sulfur  and  aromatics.  With  this  biodiesel,  we  could  reduce  pollution  and  conserve  the  petroleum  for  very  important  use  only.  Who  knows,  right?  We  could  also  make  carpooling  as  our  habit.  We  could  take  turns  with  the  cars  and  plan  it  with  our  friends.  We  could  have  so  much  fun  rather  than  we  drive  our  car  alone.  Try  it!  We  could  make  a  difference.

In  a  nutshell,  we  should  practice  better  living  as  a  better  way  to  protect  our  environment.  The  environment  effects  the  cleanliness  of  our  state.  If  the  environments  are  better,  the  state  would  be  better  for  the  citizens.  Everybody  must  work  together  to  take  care  of  our  earth  so  that  there  are  no  pollution,  no  health  problems  and  make  our  life  as  the  citizens  much  better.  We  need  to  remember  that  prevention  is  better  than  cure  and  the  healthy  surroundings  make  lives  better.

Clean State Healthy Citizens.

Clean State Healthy Citizens.
Do you know what is `Clean State Healthy Citizens`? I doubt not all of you know. Let me give you a definition about it. I began with `Clean`, the meaning is free from dirt, if we combine it with `State` it make a great sense there. An organized political community forming part of a country is a federation or republic that is free from dirt. Simple right? How about `Healthy Citizens`? the definition of these word is a person who as a member of a country, that is `State` either by birth or by being granted such rights that having a good health. Well? That’s the definition.
`Clean State Healthy Citizens`? Do you think you are in a healthy condition? Do you think your state is clean? There are a lot of things happen now, as the pollution bring us down. We can’t be like this! We need to strive for cleanliness! The earth need our help to! Do you hear the earth shout for it? Maybe we need to open our eyes and unplug our ears. These are some tips for it.
First, Air and water pollution has long been a concern in the major cities but our concern should not end there. Other cities and even small towns are suffering from the effects of pollution. These effects and restore health to the ecosystem and human life. The term air pollution is used quite often, but what does it actually mean? Basically, it can be defined as the presence of chemicals in the atmosphere in concentrations high enough to effect climate and harm organisms and materials.
As a citizens we have pledge to keep our state to be a clean, healthy, safe and friendly environment. Where are those promises? How about the students in the school? As a teacher, they need to control and teach them to somehow take good care of the tables, chairs and other things in the classrooms. As a student, they also need to obey the school rules and learn to make a better life in our state. We all have our duty as a citizen. If the things are broken or destroy in to pieces it causes the environment in the state, think about the trees will cut down to make those things. The oxygen will became decreases every second we cut the trees down. That’s why we need to take good care of them, to prevent the insufficiency of materials to make them.
Next, do you notice this junk? I call it junk mail, I know it important but do you know how much trees are cut down to make the junk mail? The junk mail delivered to your address alone would be the equivalent of 1½ trees – which adds up to 100 million trees every year. Some of our citizens not well use with the junk mail after read it. They just throw it away on the ground or do not think of the 3R’s. Instead throw it away, how about use the benefits of recycle bins? Make the effort to it! Some communities are starting to charge fines to people who are throwing away items that should be recycled. And if your community doesn't pick up recyclables (or only certain ones) you can usually find someone who accepts them. Check with dry cleaners, supermarkets, manufacturers, your local public works department and civic organizations to find where recycled goods can be dropped off.
We still in the same topic, still about papers. Papers are all over the earth. Use both side of paper is a good idea! If you print out a document you can't use, try cutting it into fourths and stack them next to your computer or telephone. They make the perfect size for quick notes. Put some on your night stand for that quick reminder to yourself. Or, if you do a lot of printing from your computer that is only for your use, use the second side of obsolete or imperfect documents. It doesn't matter that there's something on the other side. If you work in several offices and brought home reams of scrap paper from the copier room that was still blank on one side. You also can give the papers to your children to colour on. They do not need clean papers to colour on. You can also keep a look out for blank-sided paper in all that junk mail mentioned in #5. `Health is the capacity of the land for self-renewal. Conservation is our effort to understand and preserve this capacity` says by Aldo Leopold.
Then, plastic bags are not biodegradable materials right? They’re do not decomposes fully. In addition, the ink is made up of cadmium and is highly toxic when released. Paper bags are reusable and biodegradable. Choose paper instead of plastic. Also if your purchase is small enough, don't take a bag at all. This alone could save hundreds of millions of bags. Bring a cloth or string bag for smaller shopping trips. When you go to a shopping trip, you can purchase recycle thing instead vice versa. That way you are helping to converse natural resource and natural protecting our world.
Don’t ever litter at your own state! At other state? Also cant! Please don't litter! If you’re smoking put your cigarette butts in ash trays and then deposit those ash trays in waste receptacles. Littering has resulted in litter taxes, which generate funds to educate the public about not littering. Very little of that money is used for actual litter cleanup. Cleaning up litter is much like mopping up the floor while the faucet is running. It's so easy to put your trash in appropriate trash containers. The few extra steps to the trash will benefit to your health as well.
In order to keep our state clean and healthy citizens, we also need to keep the earth save. Want to make your state clean and beautiful? Maybe your citizens strong and healthy? Plant some trees. Trees produce oxygen and cool the air. You can either grow seedlings yourself, or purchase them from a nursery. If we surround with these green coloured organisms, we surely be cool too. It will bring peace and calm state, no more hot and sweaty.
What makes a state clean? What entitles a state to be called “a clean state?” Is it states consisted of healthy citizens, who preserve nature? The earth is full of materials that we just throw away and put to waste rather than use them for productive things. In order to answer these questions we have to look at the root causes, and then make changes whether big or small accordingly. One of the root causes that we will look at is waste disposal, and how it keeps are state from becoming “clean states.” Let us look at how big of a “waste” food. We just make food thoughtlessly since we need it as human beings, yet we don’t realize that just wasting food creates a dilemma for not only us but every living thing.
However, “waste” is a big thing that attract small animals such as rats, mice and insects, and bring diseases that could be transferred to humans. Of course we need these creatures since they help the food chain, but if they are brought to cities because of food waste then we are hurting the health of our states as well as damaging crops or food. If we take a look at pigs being fed food waste we can see that this can cause swine flu or spread pathogens to humans. Waste, whether it is food, things, or liquids it is polluting and poisoning to human beings. Especially, illegally dumped chemicals and motor oil can contaminate lands, creeks and water supplies. It can seriously disrupt the balance of nature, people could get sick if they were to drink or swim in polluted water, and in extreme cases, can cause human fatalities.
Having a clean and healthy environment is one of the key requisites for a state’s development. However, it’s quite ironic that as development continues to grow, lifestyles also adjust to this and if this change happens further, exploitation of the planet’s resources in turn accelerates. With the fast paced life we are living in today, there have been many developments in different areas most specifically technology given that with any resource that is being used to produce something will result to production of wastes and deploring public health conditions. Furthermore, as development progresses, population also grows and apparently population growth directly effects generation of wastes, be it solid or liquid. As a result, some of the offensive wastes during the first half of this century were hazardous. Indeed, rapid urbanization, population growth and changes in lifestyles in low and middle-income countries contribute to increasing the per capita domestic waste generation. In fact, millions of metric tons of waste are being generated worldwide.
So, don’t waste your thing in a wrong way. We want healthy citizens right? Then, how about some changes. Use a simple 3R’s method, “Reuse, Reduce, and Recycle”. That’s the tips to keep our inspirational quote a life, “Clean State Healthy Citizens”. And also to help our planet earth! Hope the tips help you!
